Description

The locomotive for our train on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway on April 11, 1977, was to be Fairburn 2-6-4T No 42085 of which two had escaped the scrapmen. This locomotive was somewhat controversial amongst the enthusiasts of the time as she had been numbered 2085 and painted in Caledonian blue livery instead of the historically correct British Railways black. As she had been built in 1951, black was the only colour she had worn in service. Nevertheless, I quite liked her in blue - something a bit different. No. 2085 is seen here running round at Haverthwaite having arrived with our train.

To represent No. 2085 in model form, the Wrenn model railway manufacturers released a 00 gauge model of a 2-6-4T in the same livery, although this was a BR standard one and therefore not the same at all.

I think they painted everything red 'below decks' on the Caley so that's why the cylinder chest was red - but I agree it looks odd and would have been better in blue or black. Sorry, I've changed the sequence of these pictures, hope I haven't altered your fave (for which thanks!) :)
